In the face of coordinated, partisan legal attacks nationwide, Attorney General Tong is Connecticut’s firewall for reproductive freedom, commonsense gun safety, and free and fair elections.
Protecting Access to Safe Legal Abortion: Our nation is facing a tsunami of extremist legislation and litigation aimed at eroding reproductive freedom and criminalizing the healthcare choices and actions of women, patients, and providers. Abortion is safe, legal, and accessible in Connecticut, and Attorney General Tong is fighting alongside women, patients, and providers in every court in every state where reproductive freedom is threatened to keep it that way. He’s not going to let extremist politicians micromanage our healthcare decisions and endanger the health and safety of Connecticut families.
Keeping Our Communities Safe from Gun Violence: Courts have repeatedly recognized the rights of states to enact commonsense gun laws to protect public safety. But that has not stopped radical fronts for the gun industry from pursuing challenges to basic measures like age restrictions, concealed carry licenses, and ghost gun regulations here in Connecticut and nationwide. Attorney General Tong is defending Connecticut’s assault weapons ban and high capacity magazine bans. He’s not going to let the lobby jeopardize the safety of Connecticut families, and he’s not going to allow weapons of war back into our schools, our houses of worship, our grocery stores, and our communities.
Defending Democracy: In the lead up to the 2020 elections, as states pushed through unconstitutional and politically-motivated voter suppression laws, Attorney General Tong joined with attorneys general nationwide in courts across the country to protect the rights of all to cast ballots in free and fair elections. Then, when 18 GOP attorneys general went to the Supreme Court to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, Attorney General Tong was there again to defend our democracy. The attacks on our democracy and the legitimacy of our elections have not subsided, and disinformation about our elections spreads rampant and unchecked on social media. Attorney General Tong works every day alongside democratic attorneys general to remain vigilant against these serious threats.
