Attorney General Tong is focused on ensuring access to affordable, community-based care for all Connecticut residents free from political interference.
Generic Drugs: Connecticut is leading a coalition of nearly all states and territories taking on the widespread conspiracy by generic drug manufacturers to artificially inflate and manipulate prices, reduce competition, and unreasonably restrain trade for generic drugs sold across the United States. The first complaint was filed under Attorney General George Jepsen. The second two were filed under Attorney General Tong. In his second term, Attorney General Tong delivered four settlements with generic drug manufacturers totalling nearly $67 million. The case remains active and ongoing, and is heading toward trial in Hartford in 2026.
Insurance Rates: Attorney General Tong continues to push back against double-digit rate hikes requested year after year by insurers, and continues to seek a more robust process to protect families and small businesses from unaffordable hikes.
Affordable Care Act: During his first term, Attorney General Tong successfully fought alongside democratic attorneys general to defend the Affordable Care Act before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Private Equity in Healthcare: Attorney General Tong has fought to hold private equity-backed Prospect Medical accountable for the harm it has inflicted on Connecticut patients and the state through its reckless mismanagement of Waterbury, Manchester Memorial, and Rockville General hospitals. He has pushed for stronger state laws to expand state oversight over healthcare acquisitions and mergers, particularly those involving private equity investment and corporate ownership.
Reproductive Freedom: Abortion is safe, legal, and accessible in Connecticut, and Attorney General Tong is fighting alongside women, patients, and providers in every court in every state where reproductive freedom is threatened to keep it that way. He’s not going to let extremist politicians micromanage our healthcare decisions and endanger the health and safety of Connecticut families. He’s helped to counter disinformation and legal threats by working with the Reproductive Equity Now Foundation to start the Connecticut Abortion Legal Hotline to provide patients and providers with free and confidential legal advice and information.
Gender-Affirming Care: Attorney General Tong is fighting for the rights of families and doctors to make personal medical decisions free from hateful partisan interference, that includes leading the multistate coalition blocking the Trump Administration’s threat to cut off hospitals and clinics who provide gender-affirming care from accessing Medicare and Medicaid.
