As firefighters, our job is to be ready for anything. No matter how small or large the emergency, we are there whenever our community calls.
When other people run out of burning buildings, it is up to us to run into danger.
It takes a toll on us, on our bodies and minds, from heart disease to high-risk exposure to hazardous materials. We also face the long-term effects of trauma, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, that can stay with us for the rest of our lives.
We love our jobs. We love to serve the people of Connecticut, but as first responders, we can’t rely on mere promises and gestures of support. We need battle-tested leaders who have our back just like we have the backs of Connecticut families, leaders who have proven their commitment to us time and again.
William Tong is one of those leaders. William has fought for us in the state legislature to ensure that the firefighter community gets the support and care that we need and deserve. We know that as he takes on bigger challenges, William will be there for us. Because he always has. He is a leader we can trust.
William has a strong record of protecting the rights of working men and women. He has stood strong against attacks on our rights to collectively bargain with our state and municipal employers. And he has fought for a fair workers' compensation system that credits our sacrifices and takes care of our families.
Whenever the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut (UPFFA), representing 4,500 firefighters in 65 cities and towns and over 3,000 retired firefighters, have called on him, William Tong has been there for us. And now, we are there for him as he explores a run for statewide office.
We hope you join the UPFFA in supporting William by visiting williamtong.com, following him at @WilliamTongCT and texting TeamTong to 41411.
